JOURNEY JEWELS: Kaohsiung, Taiwan
THIS WEEK WE INTERVIEWED THE LOVELY CHRISTINE TRAN FROM PARIS, FRANCE WHO VENTURED TO TAIWAN LATE LAST YEAR. HER JOURNEY WAS CAPTIVATING AND I SO ENJOYED SEEING THESE MOMENTS OF COUNTRYSIDE, CITYSCAPES AND OCEAN VIEWS THAT SHE WAS ABLE TO CAPTURE.
"I used to be the kind of girl that had never left her hometown in the suburb of Paris and her family. I also was the kind of girl who would dream for days for evasion, for adventures. I began to move from my hometown and leave alone, and then boom: I got accepted for an exchange program on the other side of the world, on the 15-hour-by-plan land, on the unknown Taiwan."
Q: What set this adventure apart from others?
A: It was my first trip on the other side of the world, I have never been so long so far from my family and everything I know. The trip is completely out of my comfort zone. I have learnt to be independent anywhere, to build my own space, my own tent figuratively speaking on any place and trust it is the right place to be.
Q: What about this journey truly took your breath away?
A: Taiwan is just full of wonders. I would have never guessed. People are purely nice.
Q: What was the most surprising aspect of the trip?
A: Weather was so very hot. Still people wears long sleeves.
Q: Who was the most interesting person you encountered?
A: The people from my local church: they have a life of faith in leaving everything they are used to and everything comfortable to bring peace in that island. Plus, they were always in for a night out playing ukulele in a convenient store.
Q: How did this trip change you?
A: I used to think "I could never put my whole life in 30kg". Now, I can go on a 4-days trip with just a small bagpack.
Q: What travel advice would you give to others looking to make a similar journey?
A: You will rest later, enjoy at the fullest! Definetely worth it.
Q: Where is your sense of fernweh taking you next?
A: leaving, I had a sense that I needed to breath, to go somewhere I would learn to be on my own and learn to enjoy being on my own.
HAPPY JOURNEYING FRIENDS!
